Lymphedema Treatment, Plastic Surgery recovery, and Lymphatic System care in Dallas, Texas

The lymphatic system is the body’s detox system and sewer system for fluids.

People experience swelling for several reasons: Temporary swelling is a natural part of the healing process when there has been an injury or surgery. People can also develop lymphedema, a more permanent swelling that occurs that requires ongoing management for a lifetime.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a manual technique of stimulating the lymphatic system to move more fluid faster. It is a form of light, yet specific massage. Just like your heart picks up its pace when you exercise, the lymphatic system picks up its pace when it is stimulated. This helps a slow and sluggish system clear itself more efficiently.

This treatment is ideal in preparing your body before surgery to increase immune function and decrease swelling after surgery. MLD is wonderful for the immune compromised or those who have trouble with chronic inflammatory conditions. MLD stimulates the body’s lymphatic system to reduce swelling faster, to remove cellular waste more efficiently, and to boost the immune system for a more effective response.

Bodywork RX provides the four main components of lymphedema treatment:

Lymphedema Treatment addresses chronic swelling that occurs in any body part where the lymphatic system has been damaged due to some sort injury, surgery, or other trauma. It can be secondary to venous insufficiency and lipedema. People born with a primary lymphedema resulting from a genetic defect may have swelling at birth or it may not appear until young adulthood or later in life.

Treatment for lymphedema is called Complete Decongestive Therapy, or CDT, and it’s very effective. Several factors go into the individual outcome but many people can live with a perfectly normal size arm or leg.
